Makweti Safari Lodge

Makweti Safari Lodge is a luxury accommodation located within the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, offering a secluded and immersive safari experience for guests. The lodge is designed with an emphasis on environmental sensitivity and reflects a timeless African aesthetic reminiscent of the eras of famous explorers like Livingstone and Hemingway.

Situated in the Waterberg landscape, Makweti Safari Lodge is surrounded by a natural habitat that is home to Africa's "Big Five" wildlife species. The lodge has no fences, allowing these iconic animals, along with various other species, to roam freely in the vicinity. A stream-fed waterhole located just 80 yards from the open lounge and viewing deck provides a prime spot for observing the wildlife coming to quench their thirst.

The lodge features five luxury suites that seamlessly blend into the idyllic safari landscape, catering to no more than 10 guests at a time. Each suite is architecturally designed as a secluded sanctuary, offering panoramic views across a gorge-defined valley to enhance the overall experience. Access to some suites is via a swing bridge over the Makweti gorge, while others feature private plunge pools, extended teak decks, and thatched overhangs, expanding the living space.

Makweti Safari Lodge prides itself on offering delectable, world-rated cuisine, with every meal considered a gracious culinary event. Guests have the opportunity to explore the vast 40,000-hectare Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, one of Southern Africa's largest private game reserves, with knowledgeable guides leading the way.

The lodge aims to provide a serene and elegant ambiance while allowing guests to catch a glimpse of old Africa, surrounded by pristine wilderness and attuned to the gentle rhythm of nature. Rates are inclusive of accommodation, VAT, all meals, tea and coffee refreshments, two daily safari activities, and scheduled transfers from the game reserve's main gate. Please note that a compulsory conservation levy per bed night is applicable to each booking, and children under the age of 12 are not permitted.
