Matingwe Lodge

Matingwe Lodge is a four-star graded accommodation situated in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, South Africa, approximately three hours from Johannesburg and an hour's drive from the town of Vaalwater. The lodge is located in a malaria-free area, and although a 4x4 vehicle is not required to reach the destination, a high clearance vehicle is recommended.

Matingwe Lodge can accommodate a maximum of 14 guests in thatch-roofed buildings and free-standing rooms surrounded by an indigenous garden. The rooms are decorated in a safari setting style, equipped with either double or twin beds, and bathroom facilities including a bath or shower. Some rooms feature a sleeper couch that can be converted for families. While the rooms offer an outdoor experience, the lodge also has a communal loft lounging space fitted with a TV.

The lodge features a restaurant where meals are served, including breakfast in the lapa overlooking the bushveld and candlelit dinners in the evening. The meals are carefully prepared and generously portioned, served in a plated style with sincere service. The fully stocked bar and temperature-controlled cellar offer a selection of South African wines. Outdoor facilities include a large firepit for conversations and traditional braai (barbecue) dinners.

During the summer months, guests can enjoy a rock pool and deck area, sipping cocktails and reading books in the sun. In winter, cozy nooks with fireplaces and fine wines are available in the living area. The lodge grounds are home to abundant birdlife and plains game such as sable antelope, with hiking trails allowing for safe exploration. While there are no predators on-site, guided Big 5 game drives are offered in the neighboring Welgevonden Game Reserve, where rangers provide knowledgeable commentary and refreshment stops.

Additional on-site activities at Matingwe Lodge include hiking, cycling, fishing, and bird watching, while off-site activities comprise horse trails, Bushmen painting hikes, and elephant rides. The Deluxe Suite offers a private outdoor patio and fireplace, with the option of inter-leading to a luxury suite. It is equipped with twin beds (or a rollaway bed on request), air conditioning, a ceiling fan, safe, minibar, tea/coffee station, en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet, and a range of luxury amenities.
