Mcgregor Backpackers

McGregor Backpackers is situated in the center of McGregor, which itself is located in the heart of the Langeberg Mountains and wine region. It offers affordable rates, excellent home-from-home facilities, and is within walking distance of all the places of interest in McGregor. The establishment features a fully equipped kitchen, a comfy dining room, a lounge with full DSTV and fast free internet. Linen and towels are provided.

Although unlicensed, the backpackers has a small pub where guests are welcome to bring their own beverages, with ice provided free of charge. The braai facilities are designed for making new friends, and there is a small charge for wood. The Backpackers serves as the home base for many people undertaking the popular Boesmanskloof hike from Greyton to McGregor. It offers a pick-up service from the trail's end, delivery back the next day, and a free shopping service so that guests only need to carry a snack and some water.

There are numerous mountain bike trails in the area, ranging from challenging to leisurely. The backpackers is negotiating with local farmers who are creating wonderful single tracks on their farms, and access will be granted to riders accompanied by a local rider, with Geoff offering guided rides. Hiking options include walks in the krantz, some breathtaking and others more relaxed. For hot days, the lei-water dam provides a refreshing swimming spot.

McGregor hosts many festivals throughout the year, and the Backpackers serves as a springboard for these occasions. Smoking is not permitted in any of the rooms, but a designated outdoor area with a receptacle for cigarette butts is available. Pets are allowed, provided they are social and do not sleep on the beds, with one pet per family permitted. Safe off-street parking is available.

The Bluegum Family suite consists of two interconnecting rooms. Room (1) has a double bed and costs R785.00 per night. Room (2) has a single bed and a bunk bed, sleeping three people, at a cost of R425.00 per person per night. These two rooms have their own en-suite bathroom, making them perfect for families.
