Merindol Manor is one of the oldest heritage homes in the picturesque Riebeek Valley, situated in the heart of the Swartland region, approximately one hour's drive from Cape Town, South Africa. This lovingly restored boutique guesthouse, formerly a stately family home, features landscaped gardens, its own olive grove, and produces fresh fruit and vegetables from its bountiful gardens, with breakfast eggs collected daily from the resident hens.
The property offers four spacious double rooms, each equipped with crisp white linen and en-suite facilities, featuring mountain, pool, or garden views. Modern amenities include WiFi throughout the establishment, while the Manor's Littlest Library houses both French and South African literature, including children's comic books.
The Manor is operated by Vincent, who relocated to South Africa in 2016 after 17 years in international banking across Geneva, London, and Luxembourg, followed by founding a tourism business in his native Belgium. He shares his enthusiasm for travel, cycling, good food, and wine with guests, including preparing authentic Swiss fondue.
Located in the renowned Swartland wine region, famous for its world-class Shiraz and award-winning Chenin wines, the area is also home to numerous independent olive oil producers. The Manor serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions, including the fishing village of Paternoster (45 minutes), the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek (45 minutes), the Cederberg mountains (one hour), and Cape Town's V&A Waterfront (one hour).
The establishment has garnered recognition for its exceptional hospitality, historic charm, and attention to detail, with guests particularly praising the generous breakfast service, well-maintained gardens, and serene atmosphere. The property successfully combines its Victorian heritage with modern comfort, offering a tranquil retreat in the scenic countryside.
