Montusi Mountain Lodge

Montusi Mountain Lodge, established in June 2000 by the Carte family, is an exclusive mountain retreat situated in the Northern Drakensberg region of South Africa, conveniently located midway between Johannesburg and Durban. The lodge uniquely offers uninterrupted views of the iconic Amphitheatre escarpment, making it a distinguished destination in the area.

The property features 16 luxurious, free-standing suites, each strategically positioned within indigenous gardens to maximize privacy and panoramic mountain views. Each suite is well-appointed with modern amenities including tea and coffee facilities and bar fridges, offering guests a perfect blend of comfort and luxury.

The lodge sits on a 1,000-hectare conservation estate where significant environmental rehabilitation has taken place. The removal of invasive wattle trees and extensive planting of indigenous species has resulted in thriving local forests and the return of native wildlife, including Mountain Reedbuck, Vaal Rhebuck, Bushbuck, and Eland.

Guests can choose between active pursuits such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, and trail running, or more relaxed activities including bird watching, spa treatments, swimming, and tennis.
