Moontide Riverside Lodge

Moontide Riverside Lodge is situated on the banks of the tidal Touw river in Wilderness, Western Cape, South Africa, surrounded by the Garden Route National Park. The property features nine individually-decorated rooms, each offering private garden entrances and outdoor seating areas.

The lodge, built in the 1920s as one of Wilderness's first residences, was restored in 1984 by Maureen Mansfield and opened as a guest lodge in 1994. The property is shaded by 400-year-old milkwood trees and features several private sun decks overlooking or floating on the river. The beach is just a four-minute walk away, with indigenous forests accessible within 10 minutes by car.

The establishment offers various activities including fynbos rambles, forest therapy, paragliding, wild swimming, and river adventures. The Touw river provides excellent opportunities for canoeing and swimming, while the nearby Wilderness beach stretches for miles, offering serene walking experiences. Bird watching is particularly popular, with one guest recording 91 species during a four-day stay.

The lodge provides luxury en-suite bedrooms, all featuring private entrances, television, tea/coffee facilities, and bar fridges. Additional amenities include WiFi access, a plunge pool, and a cozy lounge with a fireplace. Breakfast is served on the patio overlooking the lagoon between 8:00 am and 10:00 am.

Moontide has received numerous accolades, including being named Luxury Lodge of the Year at the LTG Awards in London. The property maintains high health and safety standards, with comprehensive COVID-19 protocols in place. The establishment is staffed by a dedicated team, some of whom have been with the lodge for over 20 years, ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
