Mount Serene is situated on the slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains, approximately 30 kilometers from the town of Magaliesburg on the R24, less than 100 kilometers from Johannesburg or Pretoria. The establishment does not have a television and is no longer pet-friendly.

There are two accommodation options available: a secluded stone cottage that sleeps two, perfect for a romantic getaway, and a converted railway coach that sleeps eight, suitable for families. The units are well-separated to ensure guests' privacy at all times. Each unit features its own sparkling mineral-water splash pool and braai area, as well as an indoor log fireplace for chilly winter evenings, although temperatures in the area rarely drop below 6 degrees Celsius.

Guests can choose to relax by the poolside, take a walk to the mountain plateau, explore iron-age ruins, hike to the top of the Magaliesberg mountains, or identify some of the 300 bird species found in the area, ensuring a peaceful break from city life. Numerous recreational and sporting facilities are located nearby, including game drives, horse riding, trout fishing, golf, tennis, quad biking, the Magalies Meander, and hot air ballooning, among others.

Mount Serene provides tranquil self-catering units that are fully equipped, including a private splash pool, braai, and indoor fireplace. The premises feature a children's swing, jungle gym, and trampoline. The stone cottage is constructed from solid stone from the Magaliesberg Mountains and contains a bedroom with a queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with a two-seater bathtub and double shower over the bath, as well as a kitchen, dining room, and lounge. The cottage now has a covered patio.
