Namibrand Family Hideout

The NamibRand Family Hideout is a unique accommodation establishment situated in the vast NamibRand Nature Reserve in south-western Namibia, one of Southern Africa's largest private nature reserves and Africa's only Dark Sky Reserve.

The property features a renovated farmhouse that accommodates up to 10 guests on a self-catering basis. The farmhouse maintains its authentic charm while offering essential modern amenities, including a new indoor fireplace added in 2023. It is fully wheelchair-accessible and provides a safe haven from desert conditions. The building's historic character is evident in its old walls, fences, and outbuildings, partially covered by shifting sand dunes.

Three exclusive campsites - Orion, Venus, and Jupiter - complement the farmhouse accommodation. Each campsite is privately situated within the dunes, accommodating up to 8 people, and features modern facilities including flush toilets and solar-heated showers. Jupiter, opened in 2019, offers additional amenities including a wooden deck with roof, device charging station, and is fully wheelchair accessible.

The property boasts a waterhole 50 meters from the farmhouse veranda, attracting diverse wildlife including oryx, springbok, zebra, bat-eared fox, porcupines, and occasionally giraffe. The location offers spectacular views over plains and ancient mountain ranges, while the clear desert air provides excellent conditions for photography and stargazing.

Activities available include 4x4 dune drives, educational walks with experienced guides, dune-boarding, and wildlife observation. The establishment emphasizes sustainable tourism, with a portion of overnight costs contributing to conservation efforts in this unique desert environment.

Access to the property requires a 16-kilometer drive off the main C27 road, with 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles recommended for reaching the campsites. A minimum two-night stay is advised due to the remote location.
