New Holme Nature Lodge

The KhoiSan Karoo Conservancy, located in the Northern Cape of South Africa, encompasses two major nature reserves: the Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve and the Hanover Aardvark Nature Reserve. The primary accommodation, New Holme Nature Lodge, is situated 8km off the N1 highway between Colesberg and Hanover, making it an ideal halfway point between Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve spans 8,000 hectares and features various accommodation options, including modern en-suite stable rooms, the Stoffels Rus Self Catering Log Cabin, and the Karoo Gariep tented camp. Collectively, the lodges can accommodate up to 86 guests. The reserve is notable for hosting the Northern Cape's only hippo population, which can be observed during guided sundowner drives to the hippo pool.

The facility offers numerous activities including mountain biking, bird watching, night drives for spotting nocturnal wildlife (such as aardwolf, Cape fox, and African wildcat), and guided walks to view KhoiSan rock etchings. The property also features a local airstrip for flying activities and provides wedding and conference facilities.

Accommodation options include family units, double en-suite rooms, and self-catering facilities. All rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, electric blankets for winter, and en-suite bathrooms. The property features a central swimming pool and offers traditional "Plaas kos" (Farm Food) dining experiences.

The conservancy is part of the "Sea Caw Valley Meander" route, connecting New Bethesda to Hanover and Colesberg via dirt roads suitable for both vehicles and mountain bikes. The establishment is managed by the Ferreira family, with P.C. and Marisca Ferreira overseeing New Holme, and Elma Ferreira managing Mieliefontein and Wolmado. Both New Holme and Mieliefontein hold 3-star gradings, and a minimum 2-3 night stay is recommended to fully experience the Karoo hospitality.
