Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge
Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is a historic property situated on the slopes of Mount Meru, surrounded by lush gardens, forest, and crystal clear waters. Originally an early colonial farmhouse built in 1905, it stands as one of Arusha's oldest family lodges and has been providing personalized service since 1974. The property features 10 garden rooms and three exclusive suites, including one in the main colonial house and two adjoined suites in the Pool Cottage.
The lodge's location, 30 minutes from both Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha town center, makes it an ideal base for northern Tanzania safaris. Guests can enjoy views of Kilimanjaro's glaciers from the veranda and explore the surrounding forest, home to colobus and Sykes monkeys, along with numerous small animals and bird species.
The main house maintains many original features, including extensive colonial verandas along its facade. The interior comprises a bar adjacent to reception and a fireplace living room decorated with German colonial antiques, featuring stone benches and leather cushions. The ground floor houses two dining rooms, while the upper floor contains a guest suite with a private balcony, home theatre, and a well-stocked library with an impressive movie collection.
The guest rooms, nestled in tranquil greenery near the main house, offer private verandas overlooking lush vegetation adorned with bougainvillaea and jacaranda. Each room features a king-size bed with pure cotton linens, a lounge area, and an en-suite bathroom complete with bathtub, dressing room, and separate toilet. The lodge is renowned for its home-cooked cuisine, serving fresh trout, homemade bread, local cheese, and organic vegetables and herbs harvested daily from the property's garden.
