Nkawu Cottage

Nkawu Cottage is a self-catering accommodation located in Mtunzini, a small town situated 135 km from Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. It is owned by Isabelle and Yves Peneff, a Belgian couple who relocated to the area 19 years ago in search of tranquility and beauty. The cottage is decorated with a professional touch by Isabelle, who is a paint technique specialist, and attention to detail is evident throughout the fully furnished accommodation.

The cottage features two separate air-conditioned bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other with two single beds. There is an additional room with a bathroom and toilet attached to the cottage, which has two single beds. The open-plan layout comprises a dining area, living room, and entrance hall. Facilities included are a TV, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a basin, shower/bath, and a separate toilet, a barbecue area with garden furniture, and secure parking. Towels and sheets are provided, but guests are required to bring their own beach towels. Laundry facilities are available at an extra cost.

Mtunzini offers various amenities and activities for guests, including shops, restaurants, a nature reserve, a lagoon, dunes, and endless beaches within 2.3 km of the cottage. Local activities available in the area include golf, barge excursions on the river, surfing, mountain biking, walking trails, canoeing, and bird tours. The renowned Hlululuwe-Umfolozi Park is an hour's drive away, while the St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site, is another half an hour's drive further north, offering scuba diving opportunities. Eshowe, closer inland, offers an aerial boardwalk high up in the forest canopy, ideal for avid bird watchers.
