Nyala Safari Lodge is an exclusive property situated in the Balule Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger area in South Africa's Limpopo Province. Located on the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River, this intimate lodge features five thatched rondavel-style chalets, embodying traditional Kruger accommodation architecture.
The main lodge area showcases a distinctive wrap-around viewing deck that follows the river's natural curves and extends the length of the property. Ancient Jackalberry trees and weeping Boer-beans provide natural shade throughout the grounds. The facility includes a swimming pool with decking, a boma area strategically positioned near a active waterhole, an open-plan kitchen, lounge, and viewing decks equipped with hammocks.
Each of the five well-appointed chalets features sandy beige interiors and earthy tones that complement the surrounding bushveld. The rooms are furnished with Egyptian cotton linens and light wooden furniture. Four of the chalets include luxurious deep-set baths, and all feature both indoor and outdoor showers, with views overlooking either the bushveld, pool, or river. Air conditioning ensures guest comfort throughout the year.
The lodge offers twice-daily game drives, scheduled during optimal wildlife viewing times at dawn and late afternoon. The property is situated in a Big 5 reserve that shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park. Additional wildlife experiences include walking safaris, and the lodge is particularly known for its evening boma dinners under the African stars.
Accessibility is convenient via Hoedspruit-Eastgate Airport, a 40-minute drive from the lodge, or through self-drive options from major cities. The lodge caters to families and small groups, accommodating between 2 to 14 guests, and offers services such as specialized safari activities, walking tours, and optional spa treatments through a mobile spa service.
