Onguma Safari Camps is strategically located on the eastern border of Etosha National Park in Namibia, encompassing 34,000 hectares of private wilderness. The reserve offers visitors a comprehensive safari experience with diverse accommodation options, including five lodges and two campsites.
The property borders Etosha National Park, established in 1907, which is home to four of the Big Five and provides exceptional year-round game viewing opportunities. Guided day trips into the park are available with experienced naturalists. The reserve has recently garnered attention for its conservation efforts and sustainable tourism initiatives, earning a Silver Award at the 2024 International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) for their series "A Day In The Life Of the Onguma Reserve."
The Leadwood Campsite, which is part of the larger Onguma complex, features individual sites equipped with private shower facilities, toilets, and power points. Each site can accommodate a maximum of two tents or four people. While the campsite is fenced, adult supervision of children is required at all times. Camping guests have access to the facilities at Onguma Bush Camp, with advance booking required for meals.
The reserve has recently introduced a "So-Low Special" package aimed at solo travelers, particularly during the quieter months from March to June. This period offers visitors a more intimate safari experience with reduced crowds and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities at the waterholes. The property has also partnered with Africam to provide 24/7 live streaming services, enhancing their commitment to ecotourism and wildlife conservation.
The entire operation maintains a strong focus on conservation, implementing a Rhino Conservation Levy to protect the resident rhino population. This demonstrates their commitment to preserving the natural ecosystem while providing guests with an authentic African safari experience.
