Pikkewyn

Pikkewyn is a self-catering cottage with two bedrooms situated 140 kilometers north of Cape Town on the West Coast in Laaiplek, Velddrif. It is ideally located for adventure seekers, being only 800 meters away from the slipway (known as Rooibaai by locals), providing boat owners with direct access to water sports or angling on the Berg River, and for those with larger boats, access to the sea where they can find snoek, kabeljou, yellowtail, or lobster.

Fishing or angling can be done abundantly from the jetty or the Berg Riverbank, and visitors can enjoy scenic walks or boat trips along the river, and witness the beautiful spring flowers all along the West Coast. The annual Berg River Canoe Marathon finishes just around the corner from Pikkewyn. Locals often launch their fishing boats and return from the sea with their hulls filled to the brim with the day's catch, which can be purchased fresh from the fishermen.

Laaiplek started as a small fishing community, and it is said that in earlier years, farmers who lived along the Berg River transported their wheat and goods along the river to the sea (Laaiplek) to be shipped to Melkbos/Cape Town. During those earlier years, Laaiplek was also referred to as "Brood op die Water" (Bread on the Water).

Pikkewyn offers luxury West Coast accommodation for up to six guests, with two bedrooms (one with a double bed and the other with a double bed), and a living area with a sofa that opens up into a double bed. All linen and towels are provided. The comfortable open-plan kitchen and living area is modern and fully equipped with a stove, electric oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, and an indoor built-in braai. The open-plan living area is comfortably furnished and has a six-seater dining room table, a TV (Netflix), and free Wi-Fi.

Pikkewyn is well situated with easy access to shops and restaurants, and there is safe off-road parking for two vehicles.
