Red Monkey Lodge
The Red Monkey Lodge is an intimate beach establishment situated in Jambiani on Zanzibar's southeast coast, featuring nine rooms, a restaurant, and a bar. The location retains its authentic charm, having remained unspoiled by mass tourism, and offers visitors various recreational activities including diving, kiteboarding, bike touring, and deep-sea fishing.
Established as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, the lodge emphasizes a casual, unpretentious atmosphere while maintaining high-quality service standards. It deliberately eschews modern entertainment amenities like plasma TVs and structured animation programs, instead attracting guests who appreciate authentic cultural experiences and natural surroundings.
Following a complete renovation in autumn 2010, the property sits directly on the beach adjacent to a small tropical forest, which is home to the red monkeys that inspired the lodge's name. A distinctive 2-kilometer sandbank extends from the beachfront into the ocean, with a barrier reef located approximately 2 kilometers offshore.
The property comprises seven single-story bungalows housing nine rooms, all featuring traditional Makuti roofing. Facilities include a sea-view restaurant and bar, a reading lounge with book exchange services, a kiteboarding center, and a beachfront relaxation area equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. Sandy pathways weave through the tropical garden, which showcases various plants including aloe vera, lemongrass, papaya, banana, and palm trees, creating an authentic barefoot experience for guests.
The lodge's prime beachfront location is particularly notable for its proximity to the impressive sandbank that emerges during low tide, adding to its unique coastal appeal.
