It is one of the oldest backpackers in the country, welcoming guests from around the world for over 30 years. The establishment has two self-catering cottages, Honeyguide (6 sleeper) and Aloe (4 sleeper), which are separate from the Backpackers and have their own driveway access, private gardens, braai stands, en-suite bathrooms, and sitting rooms with open log fireplaces.

Since 2011, Sani Lodge Backpackers And Self-Catering Cottages has been a Fair Trade Tourism certified establishment, recognized globally for its ethical practices in social upliftment and nature conservation. The establishment caters to independent travelers with a conscience. The cozy common room area provides a laid-back environment for connecting with fellow adventurers, and it includes a communal kitchen, stunning views, a wood-burning fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling information on the surrounding area.

Guests can relax by the pool, explore the book exchange, or enjoy a cold beer by the braai as the sun sets over the stunning African day. Additional amenities include a yoga room, games room, swimming pool, and massage therapy. The establishment is situated at the foot of the legendary Sani Pass, just 16 km from the South African border with Lesotho, offering guided overnight hikes within the Drakensberg World Heritage Site National Park, including overnight stays in natural overhangs with waterfalls flowing over the cave entrances.

Sani Lodge Backpackers And Self-Catering Cottages offers massage services, a yoga room with mats available to guests, and tours into Lesotho that include hiking, pony trekking, and cultural engagement in a responsible and sustainable manner. The property borders the Drakensberg Park for hiking and is the start of the famous Giants Cup Trail hike. Other facilities include a swimming pool, games room, gardens for children to run around, a family nature trail with a booklet guide, and a restaurant offering wholesome food and drinks, where guests can watch Jersey cows being hand-milked.

Guest accommodations include double beds, kettles, coffee, and farm milk. Unisex ablutions, a kitchen, braai, cozy common room, log fireplace, and pool are shared among guests. Wi-Fi is available at the restaurant and bar. While Lesotho tours are offered, there are no TV sets or Wi-Fi in the rooms. Drones and pets are not allowed on the premises.
