Satyagraha House is situated in the residential neighborhood of Orchards in Johannesburg, and it was the home of Mohandas Gandhi from 1908 to 1909. Within its walls, the future Mahatma created and developed his philosophy of passive resistance. The house was built in 1907 by Gandhi's close friend, the German architect Hermann Kallenbach, and it has begun a new life today.

The Satyagraha House has seven rooms spread across the original house, a cottage added a few years later, and a modern wing built in 2010. It is now a registered part of the country's historical heritage and presents an innovative accommodation concept that combines a guest house with a museum.

Satyagraha House is a living museum with a distinct character and experience for its guests. The house has been restored to its original state. The dining room, which opens onto the back of the garden, is located under a reading room of strong symbolic importance - the mezzanine where Gandhi had chosen to live. At the front of the house, on either side of the door, two Rondavels are dedicated to the exhibit that continues in the living room, comfortably laid out around a large chimney.

A spiritual library with a collection of works from various philosophical currents is available. The garden invites guests to pursue their meditation with centennial trees, rough stones, earthen pots, and an organic vegetable garden. Guests have the opportunity to see the Gandhi loft where Mahatma Gandhi slept, prayed, fasted, meditated, wrote, and gained the greatest inspiration known today as passive resistance and human rights.

Initiation to yoga and meditation remains the main activities on the property, and these activities are available upon request. All meals are strictly vegetarian, and organic products and non-alcoholic beverages, including freshly squeezed natural fruit juice, are served.

One of the new wing rooms that were built in 2009 has a view of the garden and Historic House. It has a king-sized bed that can be converted into a twin bedroom, and an extra bed may be added for an additional charge. It also has an en-suite bathroom.
