Savannah Game And River Retreat

Savannah Game and River Retreat is located on 3000 acres of unspoiled African bush and offers guests a tranquil and relaxing bushveld stay. It is situated in the Free State just outside Parys, located in the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site. The retreat borders 8km of the Vaal River and is home to 25 mammal species, including Buffalo, Giraffe, Sable, Zebra, Eland, Blesbok, and Kudu.

The retreat provides endless photo opportunities with grass planes, vibrant sunsets, bushveld, mountains, wild animals, Sotho ruins, and the Vaal River. Guests have a choice of staying in one of the six comfortable Luxury Tented Chalets that overlook the bushveld, or in one of the eight Lodge Rooms or two Rondavels next to the swimming pool. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

A cash bar is available on the premises, and guests can relax around the pool with a sundowner and enjoy a bonfire in the African Boma. Breakfast is included in the room rates for stays of two nights or longer. For one-night stays, breakfast can be ordered, and menus for lunch and dinner are available. No alcohol is allowed to be brought onto the premises, as the bar will be open.

Activities on the game farm include game drives, fishing (including fantastic fly-fishing water), river paddles, river walks, hockey, volleyball, soccer, and more. Guests are welcome to bring their own paddle boats and bicycles to enjoy the nature at its best. The retreat also caters to groups, birthday parties, conference groups, team building, baby showers, and other events.

Savannah has a wonderful wedding venue, where the entire 3000-acre Game & Nature Reserve is exclusively yours. The open-air Chapel, surrounded by exquisite white Stinkhout trees, is directly on the banks of the Vaal River, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting for the ceremony. The retreat also offers a spa, game drives, bush walks, and can arrange romantic weekends. Amenities for children include a splash pool, jungle gym, playground, volleyball, hockey, pool table, board games, and cards.

The Safari Tented Chalets (Unit 3 and Unit 6) at Savannah are half brick and half tent, built on a solid structure raised off the ground, providing a great view of the African Bushveld and the Vredefort Dome. Each Tented Chalet has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, toilet, and basin, as well as a king-size bed or two single beds, with the option of an additional bed for children or a third guest. The chalets also feature a deck with comfortable chairs and a table to enjoy a cold sundowner from the fully licensed bar. All units are equipped with a coffee/tea station, hairdryer, and electric blankets, and include all bedding, towels, and amenities.
