Saxe-Coburg Lodge, established circa 1853, is a historic Victorian/Karoo guesthouse situated in the heart of Prince Albert, Western Cape, South Africa. Behind its historic facade lies a tranquil 5000-square-meter oasis featuring manicured lawns and indigenous trees. The property is conveniently located within walking distance of local restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, and other attractions, while maintaining a peaceful rural atmosphere.
The lodge borders a prestigious vineyard producing the award-winning "Soet Karoo" desert wine to the south, and a 500-tree olive grove to the north. The accommodation offers five luxury air-conditioned garden bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus one cottage with two bedrooms and a bathroom. All rooms provide spectacular views of the Swartberg Mountains, and guests can enjoy the one-acre park-like garden with a swimming pool.
The establishment is operated by Dick, Regina, and Carmen Billiet, who collectively speak English, Afrikaans, French, and German. Each room is well-appointed with modern amenities including pure cotton linen, flat-screen television, air conditioning, heating, in-room safe, hair dryer, bar fridge, coffee/tea facilities, and electric blankets. All rooms feature private entrances or patios, and configurations range from standard doubles to superior twins and a luxury suite with a Victorian slipper bath. The property has recently installed a solar power system to ensure uninterrupted service during load shedding periods.
