Rated 4.6 in 74 Reviews

Schrikkloof Private Nature Reserve is located in the Waterberg region of Limpopo Province, South Africa, approximately two hours from Johannesburg airport. This 700-hectare malaria-free reserve serves as both a wildlife conservation area and home to The Lions Foundation, a sanctuary established by Stichting Leeuw from The Netherlands for lions rescued from human exploitation.

The reserve features a luxury Out of Africa style Mountain Lodge that can accommodate up to 20 guests across eight private chalets and two suites. The main lodge building includes a reception area, dining room, multiple sitting areas with open fires, and a well-stocked bar. The outdoor facilities comprise dining and lounging areas on decks overlooking the 'koppies', bushveld, and a waterhole. Indoor entertainment facilities include a pool table and dartboard, and all rooms are equipped with free wifi.

The reserve is home to diverse wildlife, including various ungulates, smaller mammals such as aardvarks, and occasional sightings of elusive leopards. It maintains a strict no-hunting policy and offers guided safari drives during morning, sunset, and night hours with experienced rangers. Guests can observe both the free-roaming wildlife and the rescued lions during these excursions.

Additional activities available to guests include visits to nearby Big-5 reserves, golfing at two renowned courses in the vicinity, and visits to the thermal springs at Bela Bela. The lodge provides full catering services, offering breakfast, light lunches, and home-style dinners served in various settings including the dining room, outdoor areas, or around the campfire in the boma.
