Shallow Pig Cottage

Shallow Pig Cottage is situated on a small working farm located 11 kilometers (15-minute drive) outside of Parys and 30 minutes from Potchefstroom. The self-catering cottage has two bedrooms and one full bathroom. It features an open-plan kitchen nook, a dining table, a lounge area, an indoor fireplace, and outdoor braai facilities. The accommodation also offers guests parking on the premises in a dedicated carport.

Attractions in and around the area include the Parys Golf Course, the Vredefort Dome, and the Vaal Dam. The cottage is ideal for a family weekend out of the city, allowing guests to take walks or hikes down to the stream or into the dome for expansive views, and fetch their own eggs from the chicken coop.

One of the bedrooms has a queen-size bed, while the other has two single beds, with an additional single bed available upon request to accommodate children. There is one shared full bathroom with a great view. The open-plan kitchen nook is equipped with a microwave, fridge, hot plates, kettle, and a table with chairs. The renovated coal stove can be used to make morning coffee, heat the cottage in the winter, or provide ambiance.

Outside, there are braai facilities under a shaded grassy stoop, where guests can soak up the farm views, enjoy the stars, and listen to the night calls. A carport is provided for parking cars and keeping them sheltered from the elements. The farm aims to minimize its environmental footprint by using wind power for water supply and solar power for water heating in the main house and cottage. Guests may need to take shorter baths and showers on days with good rain, as farmers never complain about rain. Access to the cottage is via a 500-meter reasonable farm road, suitable for most cars (sedans), but not recommended for high-end vehicles like Ferraris.
