Skilpadvlei Wine Stellenbosch is a historic 78-hectare farm in the Western Cape province of South Africa, owned and operated by the Joubert family since 1917. The estate derives its name from a colony of tortoises that inhabited a vlei (marsh) on the property during the 1800s. Currently, Willie Joubert, representing the fourth generation of the family, manages the estate, maintaining their commitment to quality wine production.
The farm combines traditional methods with modern innovation in its wine-making practices and features an on-site restaurant offering visitors a complete culinary experience. The property offers various accommodation options, including bachelor cottages, double rooms, deluxe rooms, two-bedroom chalets, and a three-bedroom cottage. All units are equipped with modern amenities and private patios, while guests have access to a communal swimming pool.
Located in Stellenbosch, a renowned university town, Skilpadvlei is surrounded by the picturesque Cape Winelands and nearby nature reserves including Jonkershoek and Simonsberg. The accommodation offerings range from self-catering facilities with fully equipped kitchenettes to luxury bed and breakfast rooms featuring modern amenities such as DStv and tea/coffee-making facilities. Each unit has been designed to provide comfort and convenience while maintaining the farm's historic charm and character.
