Sneeuberg Nature Reserve is a 14,500-hectare wildlife sanctuary situated in the heart of the Great Karoo, South Africa, between Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda. As part of the Compassberg Protected Environment, the reserve sits at an altitude of approximately 1,750 meters, featuring a unique climate with warm days and cool evenings, occasionally experiencing snowfall in winter. The mountainous terrain serves as an important water catchment area.
The reserve is home to various antelope species, Nguni cattle, and diverse wildlife. Notably, the absence of predators makes it safe for visitors to enjoy activities such as walking, jogging, and cycling throughout the property. The reserve offers an authentic Karoo experience through four distinct self-catering accommodation options.
The accommodation options include Kliphuis, a tranquil hideaway suitable for up to eight guests, featuring three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, one twin bedroom with a shared bathroom, and a plunge pool. The Poplars, a pet-friendly restored farmhouse, accommodates up to ten guests with five bedrooms and a swimming pool. Karoo Cottage, also pet-friendly, is a charming stone cottage that sleeps six guests in three bedrooms, sharing a pool with The Poplars. Gordonville Cottage offers accommodation for four guests in two en-suite bedrooms, with access to a pool housed in an old sheep shearing shed.
All accommodations feature limited WiFi connectivity and maintain a traditional atmosphere without television. The Poplars Farm and Karoo Cottage share the same property, while Kliphuis and Gordonville Cottage are located separately within the reserve.
