Sodwana Bay Lodge is located in the heart of Maputaland on the western shore of Lake Shazibe. It is bordered by the world's highest naturally vegetated dunes which shelter the golden beaches of the lush interior. The area is surrounded by fertile swamps, sand forests with rare and protected animal and plant species, as well as wide lakes and extensive river estuaries teeming with life.

The lodge's design has been carefully executed to match the rustic, eco-oriented nature of the KwaZulu-Natal region. It offers a full range of dive courses and is run by a fully-equipped PADI 5-star IDC scuba center. Over 1,200 different tropical marine fish species can be observed in the various coral reefs at the acclaimed Sodwana Bay. Magnum Fishing Charters are also available on-site for deep-sea fishing experiences. The region is considered low-risk for malaria, and cell phone reception is available.

The accommodation options at the hotel include 20 en-suite rooms, with three double rooms and 17 twin rooms. Cots are available upon request. The Leatherback Seafood and Grill Restaurant offers a buffet and an u00e0 la carte menu with a wide variety of choices. Its operating hours are from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. The bar at The Leatherbacks is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. A pool bar is also located on the deck overlooking the swimming pool. The Zulu Boma is available by prior arrangement only.

Sodwana Bay Lodge is well-known for its team-building experiences on the property. It has several conference rooms with capacities ranging from 20 to 50 people, depending on the requested setup styles. Standard equipment such as a flipchart, lectern, whiteboard, TV, and video are available.

The Sodwana Bay Lodge Scuba Center provides a range of diving activities, from introductory dives to instructor courses. While diving packages only include dives to Two Mile Reef, other dive sites are visited regularly for a small additional fee. Diving conditions are generally best earlier in the day. Dive packages do not include equipment, which is available for hire upon request and should be pre-booked directly with the Dive Shop. Dive certification cards must be produced upon arrival, and a refresher course is strongly recommended if it has been six months or longer since the last dive.

The hotel accommodation at Sodwana Bay Lodge offers non-catering two-sleeper units with either two twin beds or one double bed per unit. The units feature an en-suite bathroom, bar fridge, tea and coffee station, and TV (DSTV). These air-conditioned units also have ceiling fans but no cooking facilities.
