Sperrgebiet Lodge is a unique accommodation establishment situated 10km outside Springbok in the heart of Namaqualand, Northern Cape, South Africa. The property spans 300 hectares and is owned by Tertius and Mareleze Scheepers, who purchased the land to pursue their dream of a tranquil lifestyle away from urban development.
The lodge is strategically positioned among mountains and koppies adorned with quiver trees in a rugged semi-desert landscape. The accommodation consists of free-standing log units, each equipped with modern amenities including en-suite bathrooms, DStv, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi internet access, and fully-equipped kitchenettes. Guests can enjoy facilities such as a swimming pool and private braai (barbecue) areas, with secure parking available on the premises.
The property is renowned for its natural surroundings and wildlife, with 69 different bird species identified by the owners. The peaceful environment is characterized by profound silence, occasionally interrupted by the calls of jackals, owls, and during spring, the distinctive sounds of the heutjie-heu and koffiemeul grasshoppers and barking geckos. The location provides easy access to local attractions including the Goegap Nature Reserve, Hester Malan Flower Garden, and Namaqua National Park.
The property also features the Kokerboom Kwekery en Padstal (Quiver Tree Nursery and Farm Stall), which offers local quiver trees, succulents, handmade items, and homemade products from the Namaqualand region.
