Springvale Farm Cottages is a charming countryside retreat located between Nottingham Road and Rosetta in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands of South Africa. The property, owned and operated by the Berning family since 1974, has evolved from a horse stud through various agricultural iterations, including a beef operation and dairy farm, to become the welcoming guest accommodation it is today.
The establishment features five thoughtfully restored cottages, each combining 19th-century charm with modern amenities. The accommodations range from the intimate Inkonyane Cottage, perfect for couples, to the spacious Ouhout Cottage, which can host up to six guests. Each cottage boasts farm-style stoeps, wood-burning stoves, and private enclosed gardens.
As a working dairy farm, Springvale offers guests an authentic agricultural experience while providing numerous recreational opportunities. Visitors can explore extensive hiking and biking trails, enjoy bass fishing in the property's dams, and observe diverse wildlife including Bushbuck, Reedbuck, and three species of crane. The farm has dedicated 50 hectares to the Crane and Oribi Foundation, demonstrating their commitment to wildlife preservation.
Additional features include farm-fresh produce, hot tubs, moonlit dam swimming, and pet-friendly accommodations. The property's location makes it an ideal base for exploring the Midlands Meander's art studios, craft shops, and eateries. Guests particularly appreciate the thoughtful touches such as fresh farm milk, homemade bread, and the opportunity to experience genuine farm life, all while enjoying unobstructed views of the starlit sky.
