Sterboom Guest House is a self-catering accommodation situated in proximity to the town of Sutherland, which is renowned for being one of the coldest towns in South Africa, frequently experiencing snowfall during the winter season. The guest house derives its name from a unique and endangered veld plant known as the Star Cliffortia or Cliffortia Arborea, which is confined to the mountains surrounding Sutherland, specifically on a southern peak at a high altitude.

The guest house comprises a fully equipped open-plan kitchen and living area, powered by gas, as well as an indoor braai and fireplace with firewood available upon request. It offers two spacious rooms that can accommodate up to four guests. Visitors have the opportunity to experience a working Karoo farm, embark on hiking trails, observe roaming game, and witness spectacular sunsets, all while enjoying the warm Karoo hospitality. However, it is important to note that the guest house has only one bathroom.

Sterboom Guest House is equipped with Wi-Fi and solar power, and it also features a TV with easy view channels. The area has limited cellular network coverage, with only MTN signal available in close proximity. Guests are advised to bring their own towels.

Sutherland is located in close proximity to sites featuring unique corbel houses, which are found exclusively in this region, including the towns of Fraserburg, Williston, and Carnarvon. These corbel houses are distinctive stone structures resembling beehives, constructed using flat stones readily available in the area where wood was scarce.

The town of Sutherland is widely known for its astronomical significance, as it is a destination where people visit to observe the skies and marvel at the star scopes that survey the outer limits. It is also home to the South African Astronomical Observatory, where astronomers come to utilize the telescopes for their research.
