Summerplace Game Reserve

Summerplace Game Reserve is nestled within the Waterberg Biosphere in Limpopo Province, South Africa, spanning an impressive 3,500 hectares of natural bushveld. The reserve offers a diverse range of self-catering accommodation options, from intimate cottages to luxurious lodges, catering to groups of varying sizes from 2 to 12 guests.

The property has been under the stewardship of the Baber family for over six decades, with David and Simone Baber, along with their children Ben, Josh, and Lilian, serving as the current hosts. Their commitment to hospitality and preservation of the natural environment is evident throughout the reserve.

The reserve is renowned for its extensive network of mountain biking trails, featuring over 160 kilometers of carefully crafted routes suitable for all skill levels. Internationally certified instructors and guides are available for skills sessions and guided rides. Additional activities include trail running, hiking, tennis, beach volleyball, and game drives, allowing guests to experience the reserve's diverse wildlife, including rare antelope species, giraffe, and zebra.

Accommodation options include the newly built Summerhill lodge, Summerview Villa, York's View, Bushwillow Cottage, Saringa Cottage, Rosemary Cottage, Marula Cottage, New Wine, The Shed apartments, and Hideout units. Many units feature wood-fire hot tubs, private pools, and spacious stoeps (verandas) offering panoramic views of the Waterberg landscape. The reserve also maintains six campsites for outdoor enthusiasts.

The reserve places strong emphasis on ecological conservation, particularly focusing on Roan Antelope breeding and preservation. Their commitment extends to maintaining the balance between sweet and sour veld, protecting naturally occurring Aloe Marlothii forests, and ongoing projects to remove alien plant species to restore indigenous flora.

Home-cooked meals can be arranged in advance, and The Bike Village offers breakfast and lunch services, with dinner delivery available to cottages. The property combines luxury accommodation with outdoor adventure while maintaining a strong focus on conservation and sustainable tourism.
