Syringa Sands Forest Cottage

Syringa Sands Forest Cottage is a self-catering accommodation located on the Kransberg plateau in the malaria-free Waterberg region of Limpopo, South Africa. It is situated halfway between Vaalwater and Thabazimbi, 38km from the Marakele National Park gate and 14km from the Welgevonden South Gate. The cottage is accessible via a scenic route passing several game farms, with the last 40km stretch being a dirt road where a higher clearance vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season.

The cottage itself covers an area of 76 square meters and features two equal-sized bedrooms, each equipped with a ceiling fan, a single bed, and a queen-size bed. The open-plan living and kitchen area leads out to a covered stoep and a braai area. The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, gas stove, microwave, and fridge/freezer, but does not have an oven. The lounge area features a large fireplace and two daybeds for afternoon naps. The bathroom has a shower, basin, and toilet, along with a utility area housing a washing machine.

Syringa Sands is a remote and quiet nature farm, but it offers a 4MBps air fiber internet connection for those who need to work remotely, attend meetings, send emails, or study online. The main lighting runs on solar energy, the stove is powered by gas, and the Wi-Fi has a two-hour backup battery in case of power outages from Eskom.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the braai area, which is an ideal spot for sundowners and relaxation. Wildlife such as kudu, eland, zebra, and giraffe roam freely on the farm, and a nearby wetland provides opportunities for birdwatching. Visitors can explore the farm on foot or by mountain bike, and game drives are available upon request.

In addition to the Forest Cottage, the farm has a Rest Camp accommodating up to eight people (no overlanders) located 2.5 km away, and the Syringa Sands Mountain Cottage for two, situated about 5km from the Forest Cottage. On-site undercover parking is available at the back of the cottage. Guests are advised to bring firewood or briquettes and drinking water. Game drives and feeding of plains game between April and October can be arranged, offering excellent photo opportunities.
