Syringa Sands Mountain Cottage

Syringa Sands Mountain Cottage is a remote and isolated accommodation located on the Kransberg plateau in the malaria-free Waterberg region of Limpopo Province, South Africa. It is situated halfway between Vaalwater and Thabazimbi, approximately 38km from the Marakele National Park gate and 14km from the Welgevonden South Gate and Kololo Lodge. The route to the cottage is a scenic journey passing through several game farms, with the last 40km stretch being a dirt road, where a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season.

The Mountain Cottage offers endless views, remote ruggedness, spectacular sunsets, and complete isolation, making it a unique spot for guests to truly disconnect and relax, enjoy hiking, and spend evenings stargazing. The charming cottage features one bedroom with an extra-length queen-size bed and a single bed, as well as two daybeds in the lounge area. It has an open-plan kitchen/lounge area, a bathroom with a basin and toilet, and an outside shower.

The cottage operates off-grid, relying on solar power for lights, a camping fridge, water pump, and hot water geyser. Rainwater harvesting (20,000-liter storage) is used, and additional battery-operated lamps are provided for lighting. Guests should expect very limited connectivity at this eco-cottage, which is located 7km from the Syringa Sands gate and is best reached by 4x4. The owners can also arrange to transport guests from the gate to the cottage.

In addition to the Mountain Cottage, there is another cottage and a rest camp on the 1600 HA game farm. The Syringa Sands Forest Cottage (4 sleeper) and the Syringa Sands Rest Camp (for 8) are approximately 5km from the Mountain Cottage. Guests are advised to bring drinking water, torches, firewood, and walking shoes, as there are two well-demarcated hiking trails available: the Red route walking trail (9km) and the White route hiking trail (5km).
