Tamboershoek is a farm surrounded by the Nuweveld Mountains in the vast Great Karoo region. It offers a self-catering chalet with two bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, accommodating four guests on double or single beds. The fully-equipped chalet provides bedding, towels, gas kitchen appliances, and oil lamps, as there is no electricity. Instead of modern amenities, it offers a cozy fireplace and stunning views.
Tamboershoek is a working farm with a vibrant lifestyle involving sheep and game. The farm life brings unexpected surprises, such as sudden snowstorms, beautiful sunsets, frosty winter mornings, or serene summer nights with spectacular stars. As the Karoo ecosystem is fragile, quad bikes or scramblers are not allowed, but mountain bikes are welcome. The entire 5000-hectare farm is open for hiking, although there are no formal trails.
The farm is situated in the Northern Cape, directly on the border with the Western Cape, making it an ideal location for birdwatchers to spot elusive species. Access to Tamboershoek is typically only by 4X4 or high-clearance vehicles unless otherwise advised, as the road conditions can vary throughout the year.
