Tankwa Karoo National Park is situated on the southern boundary of the Northern Cape. It is bordered by the Roggeveld Escarpment in the east, the Cederberg in the west, and the Klein Roggeveld Mountains in the south. The park is a four-hour drive from Cape Town, and it is truly unique. It is located within the succulent Karoo Biome, an area renowned for its rare and endemic plant species, rich birdlife, and breathtaking landscapes, ranging from the sheer cliffs of the Roggeveld Escarpment to the moonscapes of the Tankwa Desert.

The rates at the Tankwa Karoo Rest Camp are subject to the number of adults and children staying. Quotes include the 1% Community Levy but exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly to the camp upon arrival. There is no power, ablutions, or water available at the Rest Camp. It is accessible by normal sedan vehicles, and fully self-sufficient campers are allowed to camp at designated spots on an "only leave your footprints" basis. Each site can accommodate up to 15 individuals, and it is for the exclusive use of the party who reserves it. All visitors are required to report at the Roodewerf Reception upon arrival. The closest water source is the Langkloof/Renoster river, which is accessible only from June to November, or at the Roodewerf Reception.
