Tekweni Backpackers

Tekweni Backpackers is located in the center of Durban's entertainment district, with pubs, clubs, restaurants, and markets in close proximity. It consists of three neighboring houses, with the oldest and main house dating back to 1896. Established in 1992, it is one of the first five hostels in the country and the longest-running in Durban.

The hostel is conveniently situated within 2 km of the beach and town center. Its accommodations are spread across the three properties, offering guests the choice of staying in the midst of the action or in more secluded rooms away from the hustle and bustle. The comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

Tekweni Backpackers has built its reputation on a festive atmosphere and fun-loving approach. Guests can enjoy the poolside sports bar, sunbathe, listen to music, or play pool. Barbecues are held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, with the hostel providing salads, rolls, and a fire, while guests bring their own meat or preferred items to cook and socialize with other travelers.

The hostel features a fully equipped stainless steel kitchen for guests to prepare meals. The renovated ablutions cater to the needs of backpackers. Unlimited safe parking and 24-hour security with CCTV cameras are provided on the premises.

Tekweni Backpackers offers excellent fast Internet access with an ADSL connection, as well as a satellite TV in the poolside sports bar showing current sports events, movies, and TV programs. The indoor-outdoor seating areas allow guests to choose the desired ambiance.

Each room contains two bunk beds that can be separated into four single beds. The rooms have access to shared bathrooms, and guests have access to all communal amenities at the lodge.
