The Artist's Cottage is situated in the center of the small town of Sutherland. It is a typical Karoo-style building that has undergone renovation with modern touches while preserving its authentic feel. Sutherland is located in the Northern Cape province, just a short distance from the border with the Western Cape. The town is renowned for its clear skies, stargazing opportunities, and cold winter temperatures that can drop below zero degrees Celsius and occasionally bring snowfall.

Sutherland is steeped in South African history, home to endemic succulents, and features amazing architecture. It is also the site of SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope, which is the second-largest optical telescope in the world. While the town itself is quaint and quiet, it offers more than just the opportunity to visit the observatory. The Artist's Cottage is an ideal destination for a weekend getaway from the city, allowing quality time with family.

The cottage consists of two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, comfortably accommodating four guests. On the ground floor, there is a bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom. It also features an open-plan dining area, kitchen, and a large fireplace built in the traditional style, large enough to sit next to the fire. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, a small gas stove, a microwave, and all necessary cutlery and crockery.

Upstairs, there is a loft bedroom accessible via stairs both inside and outside the house. This room features a modern open-plan bathroom with a freestanding Victorian bathtub, a separate toilet, and ample space for reading.
