The Berghouse and Cottages is a privately owned estate situated high up in the Northern Drakensberg mountains in South Africa. It offers spectacular panoramic mountain views of the Northern and Central Drakensberg, including the Maluti mountains and little Drakensberg peaks. This mountain retreat provides comfortable accommodation in rustic chic appointed cottages, and is located only 3 hours from either Johannesburg or Durban International airports.

The property offers unique views of the Drakensberg spires, ranging from the Monks Cowls to the south and the Amphitheatre and Maluti Mountains in the Northern Drakensberg, as well as the Little Drakensberg. Guests can enjoy the mountain views from the windows of their cottage. It is a destination for those seeking serenity and tranquility, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Comfortable accommodation awaits guests in seven well-furnished, privately situated cottages, each equipped with fully equipped kitchens, kitchenettes, and log fireplaces with an abundance of firewood on site. The property offers dinner and breakfast, serving country fare. On-site activities include hiking, horse riding, fishing, four-wheel drive routes (guests can bring their own 4x4), mountain bike trails (16km on-site), bird watching, river swimming, tubing, and canoeing (guests can bring their own canoe). All activities should be arranged prior to arrival, as booking is essential.

Guests can enjoy evenings sitting around an open fire at the mini Stonehenge under the starry Milky Way, listening to the unique African night sounds of jackals, owls, and nightjars. In summer, they can witness thunderstorms over the escarpment. The Berghouse and Cottages is located 16km from the Royal National Park, making it the gateway to the Northern Drakensberg. Each cottage offers views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The Berghouse and Cottages offers a range of activities, including hiking with varying degrees of difficulty, guided horse riding trails on Basuto cross ponies through splendid scenery, fly fishing in dams and on the 7 km river on the western boundary of the property, mountain biking, and 4x4 trails. Special arrangements can be made in advance to suit couples' needs. Golf is available next door at a 9-hole course, with clubs and golf carts for hire. The property features large open gardens and lawns, trails for bikes, horse riding and pony rides, a river and dams for fishing and swimming, hills to climb, and picnic spots on the estate. Cottage 10 is a deluxe cottage with a King bed, mountain views, a bathroom with a double shower and a slipper bath, a Nespresso machine, kettle, fridge, and gas stove. The patio has a braai and a plunge pool. No children are allowed in Cottage 10.
