The Old Village in Modderfontein has been restored to its former authentic state, with each brick being carefully preserved. It has been relaunched as a venue conveniently situated on the N7 and the Spring Flower Route. The venue features upmarket guest cottages, an elegant country restaurant, and a pub that offer high-quality food and service.

The area surrounding The Old Village is rich in history, ranging from Bushman art etched into prehistoric rock faces to original wagon trails that carve their way through the treacherous passes of the surrounding mountains. The dramatic Grey's Pass, built by convicts under the supervision of Thomas Bain, also sits in this area. Amidst the silence of nature and the vast African sky, visitors have the opportunity to relive the experiences of adventurers from the past.

Each air-conditioned cottage at The Old Village is furnished with Old Cape antiques and individually decorated to create a unique character. Blazing winter fireplaces and crisp cotton sheets welcome guests to this breathtaking mountain retreat. Every carefully appointed cottage features a fully equipped kitchen, en-suite bathroom, and satellite TV for those who wish to enjoy the sweeping views from the verandas. Built with sustainability in mind, these "green" cottages utilize solar panels to provide power for electricity and heated water.

The area is home to a secretive Kalahari Bushman family, housed in an adjacent cottage as security due to their reputation for dreams and magic. For those seeking stargazing and magical dreams, The Old Village is an ideal destination. The accommodation includes two bedrooms under a beamed ceiling and thatch roof, sharing a rietdak bathroom with a shower and bath. The veranda offers views stretching from deep in the kloof, over the dam, to the mountains beyond. The authentic kitchen, with its beamed hearth and grain mortar in the floor, now uses gas for modern appliances, while hot water and electricity are provided by solar panels.
