The Shire Eco Lodge is an innovative and unique space located on the edge of the indigenous Xholora Forest in the Amatola Mountains, just a short distance from the enchanted home of many rare species of plants, birds and butterflies. It offers luxury chalets that are perfect for nature-loving and adventurous individuals, as well as those visiting for business due to its proximity to town.
Each elegant open-plan chalet features a stylish en-suite bathroom with a comfortable shower, a voluptuous queen-size bed or two three-quarter beds depending on preference, and a striking curved-glass corner window that allows guests to experience the forest and feel at one with nature. The fully-equipped kitchen includes a stove and a microwave, and each chalet has its own braai/barbecue facilities for outdoor enjoyment.
The area surrounding The Shire Eco Lodge offers a variety of leisurely pursuits, including hiking in the forest to waterfalls, ancient lemonwood forests and the spectacular Anderson Dam, horseback trails, birdwatching, mountain bike hire, and visits to a wild bulb nursery. Guests can also participate in various sports activities such as canoeing, trout and bass fishing, archery, rock-climbing, bouldering, golf, tennis, squash, and a 90-metre abseil.
Cultural enrichment opportunities include visits to local artists and galleries, pottery workshops, the remarkable Stationary Engine Museum, trips to the Old Thomas River Historical Village with a rock art museum and tours, or a Mqwali Xhosa Cultural Village. Each chalet has queen-size or two three-quarter beds, and each room also contains two loft-type beds suitable for children.
