The Velvet Olive

The Velvet Olive 1881 is situated in one of the original streets of Sutherland, Jubilee Street, next to the BOORGAT Restaurant. It is a self-catering home that is suitable for families or groups of friends who want to experience the tranquility of Sutherland in a historic house.

The main house, known as The Velvet Olive, consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge with a fireplace, a kitchen/dining area with a wood stove, and is fitted with an electric stove, microwave, and refrigerator. It can accommodate up to eight persons.

The property also includes a cottage called De Oude Waenhuys. This beautifully restored cottage has an open-plan bedroom/lounge with a fireplace, a kitchen, and a bathroom with a separate toilet. It is perfect for a small family or a couple and can accommodate up to two persons.

The self-catering facilities at The Velvet Olive include a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities on-site, parking, a radio in the dining room, a television in the lounge and cottage (non-satellite), and braai facilities. Guests can enjoy the warmth of an old wood stove while sharing a bottle of red wine, dinner, and good conversation around the large kitchen table.

For those who prefer not to cook their own meals, the BOORGAT Restaurant is located next door, offering true Karoo hospitality and Karoo farm-style dishes. Well-behaved pets are welcome at The Velvet Olive, which provides an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the ambiance of this Karoo house, fully equipped for guests' convenience, as well as the starry night sky at night around a cozy fire.
