Thornhill Farm

Thornhill, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
from
$0

Thornhill Farm is situated on 70 hectares of tranquil farmland and natural bush, overlooking the Ladies Slipper Mountain. The farm is home to various wildlife species such as Tortoise, Duiker, and Bush Buck. The house on the farm, built in the early 1900s, retains its charm and offers a view of the ocean. It was the first farm to have an automatic milking parlour.

In the early 1970s, Thornhill Farm was converted into a Protea farm, and currently operates as a guest farm. Children can collect eggs, help feed the baby animals, and ride bikes around the marked trails. The day starts with a lovely farmhouse breakfast, and the manager can prepare a home-cooked meal in the evening if desired. The farm aims to provide a traditional farm life experience while offering a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.

The farm is located 10 kilometers from the Gamtoos River, which is excellent for fishing, 20 kilometers from Jeffrey's Bay, and 32 kilometers from Port Elizabeth. The well-known Van Stadens, the highest railway bridge in the area, is also nearby. Visitors can enjoy mountain biking, walking trails, leisurely strolls around the farm among the animals, pony rides for children on a leading rein, tractor trailer rides around the farm, egg collecting, and feeding of farm animals, which may include bottle-feeding calves and lambs during certain seasons.

Accommodation options include one bedroom with a king-size bed and one twin room with two single beds. The rooms share an en-suite bathroom attached to the main bedroom. The room is located on the south side of the house and offers a sea view, making it an ideal choice for families.
