Tides River Lodge

Tides River Lodge is situated on the banks of the Breede River, near Malgas, in the Cape region of South Africa. It is located approximately 45 kilometers from Swellendam, accessible via a dirt road. The lodge is a two and a half hour scenic drive from Cape Town and only half an hour away from Swellendam, which is on the way to the Garden Route.

The lodge is located in a sheltered cove, with an island directly in front of the property, providing a unique and pristine location along the Breede River. Accommodation is offered in four lodges situated right on the riverbanks, each offering river views, a veranda, and a braai (barbecue) area. Wi-Fi and cellular phone reception are available at the lodge.

Tides River Lodge serves as an ideal destination for bird enthusiasts, as it is centrally located for exploring the Overberg region and its associated birdlife. Several estuaries in the area provide direct access to a variety of water birds. The Breede River is renowned as one of the best fishing estuaries in South Africa, with tidal action reaching 60 kilometers upstream, supporting a rich diversity of fish and birdlife. Fishing can be enjoyed year-round in the waters of San Sebastian Bay and the Breede River Estuary, offering the opportunity to catch a wide variety of fish species.

The lodge caters to diverse interests, offering activities ranging from relaxing in a deck chair and enjoying the peaceful tranquility to traversing the challenging 4x4 trails of the Overberg region. One of the accommodations available is a four-bedroom cottage with an open-plan kitchen leading to the living and dining area. The cottage features a fireplace in the lounge, a guest bathroom downstairs, an outdoor private braai area, and no television.
