Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary
Campground, HotelRated 4.6 in 254 Reviews
The Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary, the oldest of its kind in South Africa, offers a unique off-the-grid living experience while providing a safe haven for unwanted and abused wolves and wolf dogs. Located in the scenic Tsitsikamma area, the sanctuary is surrounded by mountains, the Elands River, pine plantations, and indigenous forest, where visitors can experience the memorable sound of wolves howling at night.
The accommodation options include two rustic wooden cabins, each furnished with a double bed and supplied with bedding and towels. These cabins share a bathroom facility housed in a separate cabin, equipped with a bath and gas geyser for constant hot water. The sanctuary ensures privacy by never double booking the cabins. Cabin guests have access to a self-catering bush kitchen in a separate structure, complete with a fridge-freezer, gas stove, and essential kitchen equipment. A braai area and fire pit are available for outdoor cooking and evening relaxation.
Alternative accommodation is available in two teepees, offering either king or twin bed configurations. These units operate without electricity but are equipped with rechargeable solar lights both inside and outside. Teepee guests have access to communal facilities including a bathroom with shower and toilet, a fire pit, braai area, and a basic bush kitchen with a gas stove.
During peak season, the space outside the cabins serves as a communal visitor's area from 09:00 to 16:00, after which it becomes private for overnight guests. The sanctuary operates on solar power and maintains an eco-conscious approach, emphasizing reduction, reuse, and recycling in pursuit of self-sustainability. All accommodation bookings include a day pass and guided tour of the facility.
