Umzimkulu River Lodge

Emkhosini Royal Sun Lodge is nestled on a scenic bend of the Emkhosini River in Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The property is situated at the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, serving as an ideal gateway to the Sani Pass and Lesotho.

The lodge offers seven fully equipped self-catering units, each positioned mere meters from the riverbank. The accommodations feature log fires and private facilities, ranging from the intimate Bower Honeymoon Suite to the spacious Giant Cabin which can accommodate larger groups. Most units are equipped with fully functional kitchens, private decks, and braai (barbecue) facilities.

Guests can enjoy numerous on-site activities, including 2.5 kilometers of pristine trout fishing along the riverfront, scenic trail walks along Thrombosis Gorge, and various water activities such as boating, canoeing, and tubing. The property features a comprehensive children's playground with mini-golf, classic playground equipment, a jungle gym, and a trampoline. Indoor entertainment includes a games room complete with a library, table tennis, and air hockey.

The surrounding area of Underberg, located in the Southern Drakensberg, is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring majestic mountains, crystal-clear rivers, and abundant birdlife. A highlight of the region is the famous Sani Pass, the only road connecting KwaZulu-Natal to Lesotho, offering spectacular seasonal views ranging from summer wildflowers to winter's iced waterfalls.
