Umzimkulu River Lodge

Umzimkulu River Lodge is a peaceful valley resort located 22 km out of Underberg. It offers a retreat from city life, where guests can rest, listen to the river and the sounds of nature, or spend quality outdoor time with their families. The resort has an Old World country atmosphere, with opportunities for picnicking under huge oak trees on the river island, boulder hopping in Thrombosis Gorge, or leisurely boating.

The lodge caters to different types of guests. Families appreciate the unhurried atmosphere, with days spent enjoying outdoor activities. Honeymooners can revel in the privacy of luxurious suites and private decks located meters from the river bank. Fishermen are drawn by the chance to catch rainbow trout along the 2.5 km stretch of river.

All fully-equipped, self-catering units at the lodge are situated meters from the river bank, offering stunning views. Most units, except the log cabin, are equipped with log fires and individual braai facilities. During winter, a complimentary bundle of firewood is provided upon arrival, with additional firewood available for purchase. Units are serviced once daily in the mornings, excluding Sundays and Public Holidays. Housekeepers can be arranged for an additional fee.

Activities at the lodge include bass and trout fishing, swimming, boating, tubing, canoeing, walking, horse riding, and birding. The lodge has an a la carte breakfast and lunch menu, as well as a set two-course dinner menu. Guests can experience restoration of body and soul in the truly lovely surroundings.

The Bower is a free-standing, private thatched unit set away from the family accommodation, with its own private deck just 10m from the river bank.
