Watkins Backpackers

Watkins Backpackers offers accommodation and outdoor activities on a farm located in the tranquil, natural valley in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, South Africa. The farm, which was initially established as a base for adventure school camps and tailored beach, bush, berg, and battle tour itineraries, is situated 15 kilometers from the N3 Nottingham Road turnoff.

The backpackers provides various accommodation options to cater to different group sizes and purposes of stay. All accommodations are equipped with a small stove and clean bathroom facilities. Guests can choose to stay in one of the two dormitories, the refurbished servants' quarters that can accommodate six people in bunk beds, or The Thatch Hatch, a small cottage that sleeps three people.

The farm features over 600 kilometers of mountain biking or hiking trails and offers activities such as fly-fishing and clay pigeon shooting. Over the years, Watkins Backpackers has taken more than 1,000 children on tours and has also catered to societies, photographers, retreats, outdoor clubs, groups of friends participating in events like the Midmar Mile swimming event, mountain biking or golfing competitions, and music festivals.

One of the dormitories is furnished with 12 bunk beds, and guests share a clean ablution block. A small stove is also available in this accommodation. Visitors are welcome to bring their running shoes, dogs, bicycles, and/or horses to enjoy the various outdoor activities offered at the farm.
