Whalesong Lodge

Whalesong Lodge is a boutique guesthouse established in 2005, situated atop the rugged De Kelders cliffs in Gansbaai, Western Cape, South Africa. Located approximately two hours from Cape Town, the lodge offers spectacular views over Walker Bay, with the coastline stretching from the white sand dunes of "Die Plaat" past Hermanus to Cape Point.

The property features five spacious rooms, including a luxurious honeymoon suite and four standard rooms. All accommodations are thoughtfully decorated with modern, open-plan designs and include private balconies with sea views. Each room features a reading chair, writing desk, and an en-suite bathroom equipped with underfloor heating, separate bathtub, and shower.

The lodge's common areas include a comfortable open-plan lounge and dining room that opens onto a wooden deck, perfect for whale watching. During cooler months, guests can enjoy the cozy fireplace while sampling South African wines. The property also features a small swimming pool, and guests have easy access to nearby beaches and coves within walking distance.

De Kelders' unique north-facing position makes it one of the few places on the Cape Southwest Coast where guests can watch sunsets over the sea. The location is particularly notable for whale watching, with southern right whales visible from the shore between June and December. The area is also famous for shark cage diving, diverse fynbos vegetation, coastal walks, and various outdoor activities.

The lodge serves a carefully prepared breakfast with stunning views over Walker Bay. Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring the region, including the nearby fishing village of Gansbaai and the quaint village of Stanford. The absence of street lights allows for unpolluted night sky views, adding to the property's peaceful atmosphere.
