The Windsor Hotel, an independently owned establishment in Hermanus, South Africa, stands magnificently on the edge of Walker Bay. This three-star hotel, built in 1896 as a sanatorium by Dr. Joshua Hoffmann, was converted into a hotel in 1931 by Mr. David Allengensky. Since 1996, it has been owned by Garth Clark-Brown, following his predecessor Basil Clark-Brown who acquired it in 1981.
The hotel features 69 bedrooms and 8 apartments, offering a combination of sea-facing and non-sea-facing accommodations. Most rooms provide spectacular views of Walker Bay, famous for its Southern Right whale watching between July and November. All rooms come equipped with en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, color television, and direct-dial telephone. Ground floor rooms include small patios, and all guests benefit from free WiFi and parking.
The self-catering apartments comprise both two and three-bedroom options, each with two bathrooms. The main bedrooms feature sea views and en-suite facilities, while secondary rooms offer partial town views. Each apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen and a sea-view lounge with a balcony.
For business needs, the hotel offers three conference venues: the Whale Room accommodating up to 120 delegates cinema style, and two smaller rooms - the Dolphin and Fynbos rooms - hosting up to 50 people cinema style.
Located just 120km from Cape Town, the Windsor Hotel maintains its historic charm while offering modern amenities. Its prime location near Hermanus town center provides easy access to restaurants, galleries, and shops. The area is renowned for its "champagne air," scenic beauty, and is considered one of the world's best land-based whale-watching locations, making it an ideal base for exploring the Overberg countryside, Garden Route, and L'Agulhas, Africa's southernmost point.
