The Witteberg Nature Reserve is located approximately 250 kilometers from Cape Town in the heart of the Witteberg Mountains, south-west of the historic village of Matjiesfontein. Three distinct vegetation units are present within the property: Matjiesfontein Shale Fynbos, Shale Renosterbosveld, and Quartzite Fynbos. The reserve is home to a diverse range of indigenous fauna, including grey rhebuck, klipspringer, duiker, steenbok, aardwolf, aardvark, black-backed jackal, leopard, caracal, Cape fox, bat-eared fox, and many more species.

The reserve features a prolific birdlife, featuring numerous colorful species of nectar sippers. The property is rich in cultural-historic elements, such as Late Stone Age artifacts, marine trace fossils, historic buildings, and other historic structures. The Witteberg Nature Reserve covers a total area of 4,365 hectares, approximately 44 square kilometers.

The beautiful natural environment, well-documented cultural-historic elements, unique sense of place, extensive network of 4x4 mountain trails, and clear night skies ensure that the reserve offers something of interest for all nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The reserve provides self-catering accommodation in the form of one-roomed apartments, equipped with twin single beds or a king-size bed upon request. The apartments feature a bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette with a gas hob and a fridge-freezer, and solar electricity for lights, the fridge-freezer, and charging small appliances. A gas geyser is also available.
