Woodbury Tented Camp is an intimate, three-star establishment situated within the spectacular Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. The property is operated by the Gush family, who have maintained a five-generation presence on the land, while many staff members are locals who bring authentic regional knowledge to their roles.
Nestled in a secluded hillside thicket with views over the ancient Bushman's River floodplain, the camp features ten en-suite tents elevated on raised bases. Each accommodation includes a private deck, hot running water, electric blankets, and can be configured with either king-size or twin beds. Two family tents are available, connected via a balcony to provide both privacy for parents and proximity to children.
The camp offers twice-daily game drives led by professional guides, providing opportunities for Big Five viewing and scenic sundowners in the bush. The central gathering point is a thatch-and-canvas dining and lounge area featuring an expansive deck overlooking the Woodbury plains. From this vantage point, guests can observe diverse wildlife including zebra, giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, while enjoying the distinctive calls of fish eagles across the valley.
The facility provides modern amenities including en-suite bathrooms with showers, bathroom accessories, cleaning service, coffee/tea facilities, hairdryers, and in-room safes. The main family tents include private facilities with separate toilets, ensuring comfort and convenience for all guests.
The camp's location, approximately 75 kilometers from Port Elizabeth along the N2 to Grahamstown, makes it an accessible yet immersive wildlife experience in the Eastern Cape region.
