Working with Wildlife, established in 2016, operates a unique conservation-focused safari experience in South Africa's Khamab Kalahari Reserve, the country's largest private Big-5 game reserve spanning 240,000 acres. This malaria-free wilderness destination offers visitors an authentic opportunity to participate in crucial wildlife research and conservation efforts.
The facility, founded by Edyta and Gary, combines sustainable tourism with hands-on conservation work. Guests actively participate in various research activities including monitoring of endangered species such as African wild dogs, pangolins, and cheetahs. Additional activities include camera trap surveys, game counts, vegetation surveys, and anti-poaching initiatives.
Accommodation consists of an exclusive tented lodge featuring five two-sleeper tents, each with en-suite bathrooms. The comfortable units include amenities such as electricity, hot water, Wi-Fi, and purified drinking water. Each tent opens onto a private patio with views of the surrounding wilderness. The camp's location offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and remarkable stargazing under Bortle 1 dark skies.
The reserve hosts an impressive array of wildlife, including both diurnal and nocturnal species. Visitors may encounter pangolins, cheetahs, black and white rhinos, brown hyenas, giraffes, elephants, Lappet-faced Vultures, and African Wild Dogs. Nocturnal sightings might include aardvarks, aardwolves, various fox species, caracals, genets, honey badgers, leopards, and porcupines.
The program distinguishes itself from traditional safaris by eliminating rigid schedules and crowded tourist circuits, instead focusing on meaningful conservation work and authentic wilderness experiences. This approach allows guests to contribute directly to wildlife research while experiencing one of Africa's last remaining true wilderness areas.
