Farmstay, Guest house, HotelRated 4.4 in 54 Reviews
Zongororo Mountain Lodge is situated between the picturesque towns of Waterval Onder and Waterval Boven in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The name 'Zongororo' comes from the Shona dialect, meaning millipede or 'millions of legs,' which reflects both the establishment's collaborative ethos and references the train that runs through the property, known as the 'steel Zongororo.'
Established in 2009 as a Christian guest farm and ministry, the lodge has evolved into a sanctuary for spiritual restoration and exploration. Under the ownership of Elsa, the property serves as both a hospitality venue and a ministry center, focusing on providing spiritual rest, revival, and restoration to its visitors.
The facility offers various amenities including a swimming pool, pool table, dart board, conference room, chapel, and horse stabling facilities. Visitors can explore historical sites on the property and access a farm stall. The surrounding area provides opportunities for activities such as horse riding, ziplining, and visits to nearby waterfalls and museums.
The lodge is particularly noted for its natural attractions, featuring three hiking trails of varying difficulty levels. The Yellow Route offers relaxing walks with spectacular views, while the Brown and Blue Routes provide more challenging experiences. The location is also significant for bird watching, with access to over 550 species of birds in the Mpumalanga region, known as South Africa's Crane capital.
