Zululand Lodge

Zululand Lodge is situated on a 220-hectare private wildlife concession bordering Phinda Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The property is strategically located near Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, and the coastal town of St Lucia, making it an ideal base for exploring the region's attractions.

The lodge features nine en-suite permanent canvas tents that can accommodate up to 18 guests. The main lodge area includes an open-air cushioned lounge, spacious dining area serving home-made meals, and an elevated viewing deck offering panoramic views of the Msinene River valley and surrounding bushveld. A swimming pool provides refreshment during warm days.

Built as an environmentally sustainable project, the lodge operates completely off-grid using solar power and LED lighting throughout. The facility employs rainwater harvesting for cleaning and irrigation, and utilizes a double septic tank system for waste management. The lodge demonstrates its commitment to community development by maintaining a 90% local staff complement and implementing an in-house training program.

The property offers various activities, including guided giraffe walks and bush walks along the Msinene River, where guests can observe abundant birdlife and plains game, including the shy Nyala antelope. The conservancy, previously a mixed cattle and game farm, is undergoing rehabilitation for wildlife conservation, featuring successful anti-poaching efforts and a thriving leopard population and hippo pods.

Located just 20 kilometers from Hluhluwe town and a three-hour drive from King Shaka International Airport, the lodge is accessible by sedan vehicle via a short gravel road. The establishment caters to various visitors, from couples seeking a tranquil wilderness experience to families and bird enthusiasts looking to connect with nature.
